Matching Engines
Direct Edge has 20 Matching Engines divided by tape type (primary listing markets) and by alphabetic ranges. Any given stock symbol is always matched in one specific Matching Engine. By closely aligning their input sessions with alphabetic ranges of Matching Engines, members can maximize performance and minimize latency, particularly when sending a very large number of orders in a very short period of time. The added performance is achieved through block delivery of orders from the input order gateways to a Matching Engine.
Note: Direct Edge periodically re-allocates symbols to improve the load balance on the matching engines.
Current Symbol allocation:
EDGX symbol range mapping: Updated June 28, 2011
EDGA symbol range mapping: Updated July 18, 2011
Matching Engine 1-6 = NASDAQ listed securities (Tape C)
Matching Engine 7-20 = NYSE, NYSE AMEX, NYSE ARCA (Tapes A & B)
